Punch clock at the workplace
The main job (
: pää työ) is the player's main source of income in My Winter Car, although the player does not have it at the start and it is optional to work or not. [1] It is not confirmed yet what exactly the job will be or where it is located, but the player will have to clock in and out using a punch clock, and the salary paid is based off of the hours worked. It is a fully functional and interactive job, meaning that the player has to accomplish various tasks on site at the job. [2]
Time[]
The job is active on weekdays (Monday-Friday), [3] and it has "sliding" work hours (if you enter work late, you leave late). [4] The job is only active until 17:00 or 18:00, after which the punch clock will automatically "punch out". [5] It is not yet known what the earliest time the player will be able to start working. The player will be able to work overtime (2-3 extra hours a day) [6], and he will be able to take days off if he has accumulated enough hours. [7] The player will be paid either once every week or once every two weeks with a realistic pay. [8][9]
The developer stated that if the player works at the job, he will never see daylight. [10] This is likely because the player has to start working early morning and leave around 17:00 or 18:00 which around 15:00 to 16:00, it becomes dark. [11]
Work[]
The player does not start the game with the job as the player has to apply for the job either early in the game, or wait until he needs to. [1] After the player gets accepted to work, there is a 2 week "trial period" from when the player applies to the job during which he will have a reduced pay, but if the player successfully works for 2 weeks without getting fired then the trial period ends, which then the player will receive the full pay from that point on. [12] Once the player gets paid, the salary will automatically deposit into the player's bank account by the ATM. [13] Taxes are automatically deducted as well to consider it as a official income. [14]
During the job, the office keeps track on what the player character is doing. [15] There will be a 1 hour lunch break which the player can take during the job with his co-workers [16], but it is optional as the player can opt to skip it and work during that time instead. The lunch break will be in a kitchen+break room place [17] which the player needs to being his own food for lunch. There is a useable freezer for storing food. [18]
If the player saves enough hours, they will be able to take Friday off as a free day. [19] The player can also only smoke in designated areas which is outside the building. [20]
Getting fired[]
If the player does not work enough hours in a week or if the player is caught slacking (being registered with the punch clock as being at work, but actually not being present) by the boss, he may get fired if it becomes a habit. [21][22] The player can also sneak out of the work place, however the boss monitors his workers efficiency and if he sees the player is not there, it can cause problems. [23] The player can get fired from just missing a few days of work even if it was for things such as if a car got stuck. [24] This includes things like being in jail, unless the player has enough accumulated hours. [25]
If the player is fired from their job, the player will not be able to reapply [26], permanently locking them out of the job for the rest of the game. Also, he will lose and not be able to receive unemployment benefits until either 60 or 90 days. [27][28]
Possible location[]
While the location of the workplace has not been revealed yet, it has been stated that the bus (which follows the same route as in My Summer Car) drives past the workplace. Also, the player have to drop off a nearby bus stop if the player wants to use the bus for commuting to work [29] This means also the workplace is located somewhere next to the highway - meaning it could very likely be located at the abandoned clothing warehouse, or the construction site (however the construction site has a bus stop and it is close to Peräjärvi).
