The player character has several different attributes (: tarpeet) that must be monitored and managed to prevent death.
Attributes[]
Although not directly confirmed, it is very likely that all of the attributes from My Summer Car will return and they are:
Weekday[]
Displays the current in-game weekday:
- Monday (: Maanantai)
- Tuesday (: Tiistai)
- Wednesday (: Keskiviikko)
- Thursday (: Torstai)
- Friday (: Perjantai)
- Saturday (: Lauantai)
- Sunday (: Sunnuntai)
Thirst[]
Drinking energy drinks or water from a faucet will help quench the player character's thirst. The player can die of dehydration if he does not drink regularly. Sitting in a sauna greatly increases thirst, and can prove to be fatal in minutes. Running greatly increases thirst gain, along with sweat, and temperature.
Hunger[]
The player character must maintain his hunger in order to not starve to death. To combat this, buy food related items from Teimo's shop. If the shop is closed, the player could possibly order sausage with fries at Pub Nappo. The only solid sources in addition to whatever is already bought are moose meat. Most drinks, alcoholic or not, also lower hunger slightly.
Stress[]
The player character's stress level can be lowered by driving over 120km/h, drinking alcohol, chopping firewood, winning the rally, passing the car inspection, swearing, using a sauna, drinking coffee, eating grilled meats, or being on the island. In turn, the stress level will increase in stressful situations like getting a traffic ticket, failing the car inspection, losing a hand of Ventti, or having a hangover. Stress will also increase passively. When stress becomes too high, the player character will die unless the stress bar is lowered.
When the stress bar turns red, the player character will start swearing. The player can constantly swear (rapidly pressing the swear button) (default N
) is a slow yet effective way to get rid of stress.
Urine[]
After drinking a lot, the player character must urinate (default P
) to empty himself. If he doesn't, he will die from a burst bladder. Drinking will cause the urine bar to increase much faster than usual.
The player can also drink his own urine which will decrease thirst slowly.
Fatigue[]
The player character can sleep in the bed in the parents' house, the bench in the ventti house, on the sofa (inside a heated place), the cottage sofa or the back of the Gifu. Fatigue can also be decreased by driving over 120km/h. Drinking too much coffee will cause the player character to become addicted, causing the default fatigue bar increase rate to become higher.
If over-fatigued for too long, the player character will start experiencing black-outs which shake the mouse back and forth to regain consciousness. If the player blacks out, shake the mouse violently to jolt them awake. Be careful though, assuming the player is driving and blacks out, one wrong move could be fatal.
Dirtiness[]
The player character can take a shower to clean himself. The player character cannot die from dirtiness. Pressing and then letting go of the urination button (default P
) will slightly increase the dirtiness level.
Money[]
- Main article: Markka
The player can buy all kinds of goods and services with markka.
Hidden attributes[]
Drunkenness[]
Drunkenness is not shown in the status panel, but can be inferred from the amount of distortion and swaying in view. It increases immediately with alcohol intake which can be from as little of drinking a beer, and by a huge amount after drinking vodka shot, booze or spirit. Kilju, depending on what ingredients were added, how much, etc, can also make the player character drunk to a varying extent.
Weight[]
The player's weight is not shown in the status panel, but can likely be determined by using the scale found in the home's second bedroom. The player character's weight increases when eating or drinking. Higher weight generally leads to negative effects, like a lower walking speed and an increased thirst rate, but on the other hand, the player will develop a higher alcohol tolerance as their weight increases, reducing the effects of drunkenness. Certain aspects of vehicle physics, such as acceleration and handling, will be affected by the player's weight as well. Reaching obesity can cause vehicles to pull to the left (due to the immense weight on the left suspension components) and vehicles with weaker suspension or lower power output may become undrivable.
The developer has stated that the calculations for the player weight is the same as in My Summer Car. [1] He also added that it's a lot easier for the player to gain weight in My Winter Car than in My Summer Car, due to the player typically walking and running a lot less than in My Summer Car which is replaced by driving everywhere. [2]
Weight can be lowered by physical exercise: walking, running, swimming, chopping wood and doing squats (jumping from lowest crouch position).
Temperature[]
The player character's body temperature is a critical aspect of the gameplay in My Winter Car - being too cold for extended periods of time will eventually lead to the player dying of hypothermia. This can be prevented by going near sources of heat (such as going into heated buildings, being inside warm cars, being near fires) and also choosing the right clothing for the weather conditions. The player's body temperature is a combination of the ambient temperature, the clothing he is wearing, and the amount of exercise he is doing at the moment. [3] The player's body temperature can also be increased by any heat source such as taking a hot shower. [4][5]
The developer has stated that in the worst case scenario, death from hypothermia will take 10-15 minutes. [6] The temperatures will also be in the negatives due to the game's limitations where if it were go into the plus, things would have melt which will be very difficult to implement. [7] Liquids such as milk can't be frozen. [8] The maximum temperature is -47.5°C according to the developer which he stated in a stream. [9] According to the developer, the weather conditions might be so bad, the player need at least one reliable vehicle which is the reason why the player has the Sorbett at the start of the game. [10][11]
If the player's body temperature is too low, they will not be able to sleep. [12]
Sweating[]
Sweating is a new mechanic in My Winter Car. It likely will not have a GUI meter and will be represented in a different way. [13] Sweating will occur if the player is too hot (such as if he is wearing heavy outdoor clothing in a heated building), which will cause the player's body temperature to drop faster. [14] Sweating is also affected by the player's weight. [15]
